What we do

Swot Shop provides tuition in maths and English to 5-12 year old children in the Harrow area including 11+ courses. Gary Rhodes, a qualified primary school teacher, started the business over 20 years ago in order to sell books and provide tuition to primary-aged children.

Gary has a deep understanding of the UK education system and his focus is purely on helping 5-12 year olds improve their maths and English school work.

Our tuition programmes are based on the British National Curriculum and comprise original material combined with carefully chosen external resources. In addition to maths and English exercises there’s a strong emphasis upon reading at Swot Shop.

We offer a balanced mix of traditional and modern teaching practices and all our teachers are qualified at primary school level.

Parents can be sure of spending their money wisely on Swot Shop tuition because we genuinely help children with their maths and English school work using methods and content that are relevant to Key Stages 1 and 2.

Basic Hard Work

Children need help to reach their own potential as well as maintain the standard expected of them at school. With regular reports that five to seven year olds in England do not reach government targets for literacy, it’s vital that children have a fundamental understanding of maths and English as early as possible. To Swot Shop this means hard, concentrated work with no gimmicks or games to trick the children into learning because we know it doesn’t work. We’ve even removed the classroom computers to speed up learning. Children work hard in class and at the maths, English and reading homework we give them after every class. We monitor them constantly, help them improve and they, in turn, are motivated to do even better by their success at Swot Shop in Harrow.
