Just English

We created our Just English classes in response to parents wanting their children to focus purely on developing their reading and writing for a while (this, of course, will help them with their other school work such as understanding their maths problem solving exercises).

As with all Swot Shop courses, Just English is based on the National Curriculum. We’ve combined elements from our Group Tuition course with some of the Writing Club plus some completely new content. Just English gives 7-12 year olds a solid grounding in everything they need to be able to read, write and converse confidently in English, including grammar and punctuation.

The writing exercises include story writing and comprehension practice while the reading part of the course encourages the children to borrow books from our exclusive libraries, membership of which is free to every child attending Swot Shop. Children don’t necessarily have a reading ability that matches their age – some are more advanced, some a bit behind so when they first start at Swot Shop, each child has his/her reading tested by the teacher so we know at which level they should start. We offer a very extensive range of fiction specially chosen for 5-12 year olds.

One hourly class a week on a Thursday (4.30-5.45pm).
